Kristi Stathopoulos joined our firm in October of 2018 to strengthen and expand our services to business and tax-exempt organizations, primarily in the legal fields of taxation, business transactions, tax controversies, and entertainment law. Building on her prior experiences with other law firms (including Jones Day), a Fortune 50 company (United Parcel Service, Inc.), and a major accounting firm (PricewaterhouseCoopers), Kristi is expanding her familiarity with charitable and other tax-exempt organizations as well as with organizations in the entertainment, distribution, transportation, insurance, licensing, technology, real estate and financial industries. She has extensive experience in planning transactions as well as resolving tax controversies, including multistate sales and use tax controversies and trial and appellate litigation. She has also become well-versed in tax and other legal issues for the entertainment industry as that has become a major business activity in Georgia.

Kristi is a member of the Georgia Bar Association and the American Bar Association, focusing her time in the latter organization on the Committee on Exempt Organizations of the Section of Taxation and on the Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industry. She received her Juris Doctor degree in 1999 from the University of Georgia and her Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude in 1995 from Washington & Lee University, with degrees in Political Science and French and with participation in Pi Sigma Alpha (National Political Science Honor Society).

Kristi has been a guest professor on state and local taxation at the University of Georgia Terry School of Business and a speaker at a continuing legal education seminar entitled “Dealing with the Georgia Department of Revenue.” She has also co-authored articles for State Tax Today, Corporate Business Taxation Monthly, and the Jones Day State Tax Return.

Kristi and her husband Peter have two young daughters, leading her to multiple volunteer efforts on their behalf, and she is a member of Women in Film and Television and actively participates in the life of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church.
